What is Jastip? Complete Guide to Overseas Entrustment Services
Jastip is a service to buy goods from abroad. Understand how it works, cost components, handling costs, and complete calculation examples in this article.
Jastip (entrusted services) is a service where a person or company buys goods on your behalf from a shop or marketplace abroad, then takes care of international shipping, the entire process of entering the goods, until delivery to your address in Indonesia. You simply send the product link, then pay the price of the item plus shipping costs, handling fees and service fees. In short, jastip bridges Indonesian buyers with overseas stores that do not ship to Indonesia or do not accept local payment methods.
In this article, we thoroughly examine: the definition of jastip, its types, the workflow from click until the goods arrive, all cost components, how handling costs for shipping goods work, how to calculate volume weight, two examples of calculations using real Rupiah figures, as well as a checklist for choosing a safe jastip service.
What is Jastip and why is it so sought after
The term jastip was initially popular on social media: someone who was traveling abroad offered to buy goods for his friends in exchange for a fee. Over time, jastip developed into a serious service industry with consolidated warehouses in the country of origin, tracking systems, and its own management team.
There are four main reasons people wear jastip:
- The shop does not ship to Indonesia. Many big brands in America, Japan, Korea and Europe only serve domestic or inter-developed country deliveries.
- Payment rejected. Indonesian-issued credit or debit cards are often rejected by anti-fraud systems of foreign shops.
- Prices are much cheaper. The price difference during the discount season in the country of origin can be 30-60% compared to local reseller prices, even after calculating postage and handling fees.
- Goods are not sold in Indonesia. Limited edition variants, special spare parts, production equipment or industrial raw materials are often only available in certain markets.
Jastip is different from buying from a reseller. With jastip, you buy directly from an official shop in your country of origin so that the authenticity of the goods is guaranteed and the price is transparent according to the shop invoice.
Types of Jastip that you need to know
Not all jastips are the same. Differences in service models greatly impact costs, speed, and the level of risk you assume.
| Jastip Type | Ways of working | Excess | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Individual hand carry | Travelers carry items in suitcases when they return home | Fast, small fee for light goods | Limited capacity, uncertain schedule, no guarantee |
| Open PO social media | Admin opens pre-orders then buys collectively | The price per item is cheaper because of joint shipping costs | Full payment in advance, no contract, often weeks late |
| Paid personal shopper | On-demand shopping, often for luxury goods | Flexible, can negotiate prices in the shop | High fees of 10-25%, don’t always take care of the goods entry process |
| Professional forwarder or jastip | Have a consolidated warehouse in the country of origin, take care of purchasing, shipping and entry processes | Legal, there is tracking, official invoice, capable of large volumes, costs are calculated transparently | Service fees may seem higher, but total costs are usually the lowest |
For goods valued above Rp3 juta, routine shipments for business, or products that require import documents, a professional forwarder model almost always makes the most sense. You can view our import service coverage to compare.
Jastip Work Flow from Beginning to Goods Arrival
- Send link and specifications. You send product links, variants, colors, sizes and quantities via jastip request form or WhatsApp.
- Quotation. The team calculates the estimated price of goods, domestic postage in the country of origin, international postage based on actual weight or volume weight, estimated handling costs, and service fees.
- First stage payment. Generally the price of the goods plus fees is paid first so that the purchase can be executed immediately before the stock runs out.
- Purchase and delivery to the warehouse. Goods are purchased from the store and sent to the consolidated warehouse in the country of origin.
- Inspection and repacking. The condition of the goods is checked, photographed, then repackaged so that the dimensions are more efficient and remain safe.
- International shipping. Goods are sent by air or sea according to the service selected.
- Process of entering goods. Documents are processed, handling fees are calculated based on the type and value of goods, then paid.
- Payment and delivery. You pay the remaining balance according to the initial offer, the goods are sent to your address.
Jastip Cost Components You Should Know
The most common mistake beginners make is only looking at the price of goods on the store’s website. Even though there are a minimum of seven other cost components attached to each shipment.
| Component | Explanation | General Range |
|---|---|---|
| Price of goods | Prices in stores, sometimes do not include additions at the checkout from the country of origin | According to invoice |
| Additional at the cashier of the country of origin | Additional at the home country store cashier; some can be refunded | 0-20% of the item price |
| Domestic shipping from country of origin | From store to consolidated warehouse | Free until USD 15 |
| International shipping | Based on actual weight or volume weight, whichever is greater | Rp70.000-Rp250.000 per kg (air) |
| Shipping insurance | Optional, highly recommended for high value items | 0.2-0.5% of the value of the goods |
| Handling & management fees | One combined post for the entire process of entering goods until they are ready to be delivered | See handling fees section |
| Jastip service fee | Remuneration for purchasing and management services | 5-15% of the item price or flat per transaction |
| Indonesian domestic shipping | From warehouse in Jakarta to your address | Rp20.000-Rp150.000 |
Handling Fees for Shipped Items
What is covered and how is it calculated
The handling fee is one combined post which covers all processing of goods from the time they land in Indonesia until they are ready to be delivered to the recipient’s address. The basis for calculating is not only the price of goods, but price of goods + international postage + insurance. Therefore, increased postage will also increase this post. Almost all jastip shipments incur a handling fee, so build it into your budget from the start.
Range for general goods
For general categories such as small electronics, accessories, toys and hobby equipment, handling fees are in the range around 19% of the item value plus postage. For shipments of very large value, processing is longer: more documents must be prepared and the amount is calculated case by case according to the type of goods.
Categories with special handling
Three groups of goods are always in the much higher range because the inspection is the most stringent:
- Bags and leather products – handling costs range around 28-34%
- Shoes and footwear – handling fees range around 40-54%
- Textile and apparel products – handling costs range around 28-40%
In contrast, science books received the lightest treatment among all categories.
Influence of completeness of recipient data
This is the point that is most often missed: handling costs are higher if the recipient data is not filled in completely, because it triggers additional processing, and the difference can be up to double for that component. Filling in complete recipient data from the start is the easiest way to save hundreds of thousands of Rupiah, especially on shoes, bags and textiles.
The range of handling fees may change at any time depending on the type of goods and field conditions. The figures in this article are an overview as of July 2026. At Jastip Ali we lock these figures into one all-in offer, so you know the final total before paying.
Actual Weight vs Volume Weight: Determinants of Actual Shipping
International postage does not always use scale weight. The courier takes the largest number between the actual weight and the volume weight. Volume weight formula for air cargo:
Volume weight (kg) = (Length x Width x Height in cm) / 5000
Some couriers use a 6000 divider, which results in a smaller number that benefits the sender. Example: a 50 x 40 x 30 cm cardboard box contains a pillow weighing 3 kg. Volume weight = (50 x 40 x 30) / 5000 = 60,000 / 5000 = 12 kg. Even though the scale shows 3 kg, you are still charged 12 kg. Therefore, tight repacking can drastically reduce shipping costs. You can try our volume weight calculator before ordering.
Example of Jastip Cost Calculation with Real Figures
Assumptions used in both examples: exchange rate USD 1 = Rp16.300.
Example 1: Jacket from Japan (general category)
- Item price: USD 80
- International postage: USD 20
- Insurance: USD 2
- Base value = 80 + 20 + 2 = USD 102 = 102 x Rp16.300 = Rp1.662.600
| Description | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Basic value (item + shipping + insurance) | USD 102 x Rp16.300 | Rp1.662.600 |
| Handling & processing fees | General category, around 19.3% of the basic value | Rp321.297 |
| Jastip fee is 10% of the item price | 10% x (USD 80 x Rp16.300) | Rp130.400 |
| Total you paid | Rp1.662.600 + Rp321.297 + Rp130.400 | Rp2.114.297 |
This means that a jacket that costs Rp1.304.000 in a Japanese store lands at your door for a total of Rp2.114.297, or about 62% more than the tag price. This figure is what you have to compare with local reseller prices, not just the tag price.
Example 2: Shoes from the United States (special handling category)
- Price of goods USD 120, international postage USD 25, insurance USD 2
- Base value = 120 + 25 + 2 = USD 147 = 147 x Rp16.300 = Rp2.396.100
| Description | Complete recipient data | Recipient data is incomplete |
|---|---|---|
| Basic value (item + shipping + insurance) | Rp2.396.100 | Rp2.396.100 |
| Ratio to base value | 54.0% | 63.8% |
| Handling & processing fees | Rp1.295.092 | Rp1.528.712 |
The difference Rp233.620 is only because the recipient data is not completed. Shoe handling percentages vary by type and material, so the numbers above are an illustration of the upper limit. Confirm the final estimate for your shoe model before paying.
Items That Should Not Be Guaranteed
Some items are prohibited, restricted, or require special permission so they are at risk of being detained or even destroyed:
- Medicines, supplements and cosmetics without BPOM distribution permits in commercial quantities
- Weapons, weapon replicas and components
- Live animals, live plants, seeds, and soil
- Branded goods are counterfeit or violate intellectual property rights
- Telecommunication equipment without SDPPI certification
- Vapes, nicotine liquids and tobacco products exceed permitted limits
- Loose lithium battery without UN38.3 and MSDS documents
Checklist for Choosing Safe Jastip Services
- There are office addresses and business entities that can be verified
- Provide a written quotation with details per component, not just the total number
- Mention the estimated handling costs from the start and dare to lock in the all-in price
- Provides receipt and tracking number from country of origin to Indonesia
- Have clear and responsive lines of communication, not just anonymous social media accounts
- Willing to send photos of goods when they arrive at the consolidated warehouse
- Have a track record that can be checked, for example via brand portfolio that has been handled
Be wary of services that ask for the value of goods to be declared lower than it actually is. Lowering the declared value is a violation and can result in goods being detained, administrative fines, and even criminal sanctions. An honest declaration actually protects you when filing an insurance claim.
